Yesterday the 3D department and I went to Holland Michigan to visit the Herman Miller Design Yard. We met with Greg White, the Director of Design Facilitation. He is essentially the point man and advocate for designers who work with or hope to work with Herman Miller.

After giving us a short presentation about the design philosophy at HMI, we were given a design brief. The specific details of which, I cannot share right now. But we have been tasked to develop a strong point of view and response to the topic of interest, and create images, storyboards, and models that address it. We will meet again with Greg at the end of October, as well as a few others from Herman Miller, once to go over our presentations and then again in December, at which point 6 of the best ideas will be prototyped at full-scale by Herman Miller!
This is really a great opportunity to work with one of the most respected furniture manufacturers in the world. I am pretty excited to say the least.

Here are a few pictures that I took while getting a tour of the place after we were given the brief.
