After completing the first years 3D Design project, I wound up with a lighting concept that I wanted to continue to explore. I am interested in creating a light that can be used as a wall sconce, desk light or portable light source. Taking some aesthetic cues from the Solar Paddle Lights, I am looking at a simple design logic that will address each of these uses smartly. One of the criticisms of the Solar Paddle Lights was that they were too reliant on wall and table mounts in order to function as wall and table lights. To address this issue, I thought about creating a case for the light that would act as a support when opened on a table and a built-in hook for it to hang on a wall. Material choices currently are felt and/or leather for the case; acrylic or glass for the light; mirror polished aluminum or copper for the internal side of the flaps. The reflective material serves 2 functions: 1. It increases the amount of light being emitted when on a table. 2. It functions as a mirror when hung from the wall. This way, even when the light is not on, the wall mounted light still functions.
Here are some initial sketches:

Here are some rendering that demonstrate use:

I will add an elastic strap to the backside of the light for cord management.
