The Station


I am looking at modernizing the typical entry hall furniture solution. Often one would find an enormous dark wood hall tree with a bench. Generally these pieces speak to another era (Arts and Crafts most notably) and not our time. I think that this type of furniture is due for a remodel.

Pattern Chair

Working from my earlier efforts at the bent metal chair, I am reducing the number of materials used (bye-bye wood) and am allowing the flanged sides of the metal forms to provide the necessary structure to create a reliably rigid seat.

After talking with Scott about the design considerations for the Mirror Box, I began to explore forms for an object that did not have an articulating, hinged face but still had an internal space in which garments would be hung.

Working With Glass

Today I had the privilege of working with master glassblower Chris Nordin of Furnace Design Studio/Glass Academy in Dearborn MI. This video shows the work involved in creating the domes for my lighting project. Afterward they rest in an annealing oven for at least 12 hours and then they will be cut and ground and fit to the lighting fixtures. It was a real treat to be able to watch the process first-hand. There may be more glass work in my future… Chris is a really nice guy and happy to work with artists and designers.
