Davidson Plyforms & Steelcase

Today we drove to Grand Rapids Michigan to visit Davidson Plyforms and Steelcase. It was an extremely interesting and informative field trip. Volume Gallery

Claire Warner and Sam Vinz of Volume Gallery paid us a visit yesterday to explain how their gallery works. Their gallery is one of a very small handful of galleries devoted to the emerging designer. Their model is fantastic. We also talked about the limited edition process, design as art, american design(ers), getting objects made, and many other interesting topics. They were also kind enough to give feedback to many us of about our work. Thanks Claire and Sam.

After a 35 hour (!) print job in the Dimension ABS RP machine, I now have the first semi-working model for the main component. I was under the impression that a group of separate parts remain separate when printed together (after all I have seen fully functional joints get printed in one shot). The next version that I print will have improved tolerances that account for that.
Here are a few (crummy cell phone) images of what I have so far.

The parts after being removed from the RP machine. The brown stuff is support material that gets dissolved in a corrosive bath to separate it from the ABS.
