Specs: Gypsum, Wax
10”(H) x 8”(W)
Process: This piece was originally envisioned as a porcelain pendant light consisting of two pieces held together with the lighting hardware. However, different approaches using porcelain (throwing on a wheel, using male/female molds to press the porcelain into shape) were unsuccessful. Ultimately the final piece was printed out of gypsum using a Rapid Prototyping machine. Once the piece was printed, it was given a wax bath to make it stronger and lighting hardware was easily attached.
Materials: Gypsum is a naturally occurring mineral and therefore does not harm the environment. It exhibits a warm translucence which was fitting for this project.
